  • Bangladesh ready-made garments exports account for 82% of country’s total exports.

  • Employs around 3.5million people. Mostly women.

  • The industry accounts for $35billion Export value.

  • There a total of 3000 Garment factories. Among them, 280 are Green Factories, 67 Factories are certified by the US Green Building Council, 7 are Platinum rated.

  • Among the top 10 Green Factories in the world, 7 are located in Bangladesh.

  • BGMEA, the most important association for apparels manufacturers, has joined the Fashion Industry Charter for Climate Change. Inline with the goals established by the Paris Agreement of 2015.

  • BGMEA has partnered with UNDP, to have RMG factories assessed for their alignment with the SDG goals. The Project will pilot 50 factories. then scaling up to the entire RMG industry.

  • GIZ and BGMEA jointly launched a Sustainability Reporting program in Bangladesh. This is piloted with 3 Apparel factories. GIZ and BGMEA is now training 16 consultants & committed stakeholders for capacity-building & sustainability reporting in Apparels Industry.
